A Hard Truth

In the mirror, I searched for the words to set free,

a truth long held hostage, drowning in me.

You cried out my name, the silence lay thick,

I reached for your heart, with a hand like a brick.

The moment felt heavy, I shook in my skin,

as you looked for the meaning buried within.

I stumbled through phrases, raw and unkind,

but this time, I meant it, an honesty blind.

With palms gripped tight on the edge of the sink,

I bared every worry, each fear, every ink,

no longer a façade, just an open wound,

but sometimes it takes a heart to be hewn.
