Heavy Hearts

Her words cut like glass, jagged and clear,

a conversation that lingered, a lingering ache.

Forgiveness, it seems, demands more than cheer,

it takes pieces of us, a bittersweet break.

Like a coat that fits tight, the burden I bear,

old scars in the fabric of love that’s unspoken.

Yet still, I unfasten the weight of despair,

a price for the freedom, my heart feels unbroken.

Can we forgive what we cannot forget,

a crack in the porcelain, perfectly whole?

Each fragment, a memory, threaded with debt,

yet I’m learning to carry the burden of soul.
