The crack tore the sky open

The crack tore the sky open,

sharp and sudden.

Rain hit the leather—slap, slap—

cold like a slap to the face.

Streetlights blurred,

wet asphalt glistened slick with oil,

each drop a fractured mirror

shattering the night's calm.

I stood under the tattered sky,

a stranger to the thunder's fury,

a witness to the moment

when the world forgot how to be still.
