I’m awake

I’m awake

before the sun knows itself.

The birds tap restless

at windows, their voices

broken shards

cutting the thick quiet.

Eyes half-closed, I watch

their ragged shapes

pressed against pale sky.

Calls scratch the air,

raw and urgent—

a sound that won’t settle,

won’t let me sleep

or forget the night

that still weighs heavy.
