Low Voltage

The air in the grocery is a physical weight,

and the man in the parka is testing my fate.

His sleeve hit my arm and I felt the nerves flare,

a million tiny needles in the cold, stale air.

I reached for the handle and a blue spark flew,

a warning to everyone, and a warning to you.

Don’t touch me.
