Insulation

I found it under the passenger seat,

hidden away from the summer heat.

But now it’s November and I’ve opened the top,

I’m waiting for my heartbeat to finally stop.

The sludge inside is a terrible gray,

the ghost of a coffee from some other day.

The rubber seal is a permanent brown,

I’m taking this thing to the edge of town.
