The edge

The weight in my palm.

Cold steel, balanced.

The stone rasping against it,

a soft, wet sound.

Then the glint.

The almost-invisible line.

Not just a tool for slicing,

but for parting.

Separation.

An absolute clarity.

What it could do.

What it was made for.

No going back from that knowledge,

once the edge is truly found.
