Held Together

I found a button in the shag today.

It’s small and plastic, a dull kind of white.

It must have popped when you pulled me close,

back when the air in this room felt right.

The thread on the collar is hanging loose,

a tiny bridge that was left behind.

I’m still holding the plastic.
