Surface Slick

The dryer hums like a heavy chest,

breathing out lint and the smell of rest.

I’m standing where the asphalt dips,

watching the oil from a sedan’s lips.

It’s a violet bruise on a dirty floor,

a rainbow swirling near the shop door.

I shouldn't stay out here so long.
