Broken Perspective

The pool is too cold but my back is a mess.

I walk in the shallow end, feeling the stress.

I look at my shins through the chemical blue,

they're broken in pieces, and pale as a shoe.

My knee is a stone that sits under the shelf,

I’m having a hard time recognizing myself.

The water is heavy, the tiles are all cracked,

I’m just a body trying to get back.
