Awake

The radiator hits the pipe again,

a heavy metal beat at three-forty-eight.

I’m standing in the kitchen like a ghost,

counting grams of sugar while I wait.

The blue light of the humidifier

is catching every speck of gray and dust.

I’m just a body in a dark room

trying to remember how to trust.
