Pinhole

I’ve been digging at my thumb

until the skin has gone white and numb.

That cedar fence was a jagged mess

and now I’m paying for the neighbor’s stress.

It’s a black speck under a layer of glass.

I’m watching the evening slowly pass

under the bathroom light, poking a pin

into the red heat of my own thin skin.
