Spring's Awakening

After the chill of months gone by,

a sunbeam lands, warm on my skin,

it feels like a breath, a sweet sigh,

a chance to shake off the weight within.

I stand on the sidewalk, a tiny shoot breaks,

its green defiance stirs something deep,

a promise of blooms that nature awakes,

awakens my heart from its long, heavy sleep.
