Ghost Lock

Cleaning out the drawer again.

Loose screws, dried-up pens.

And this.

A small, dull brass key.

I picked it up.

Heavy.

Useless.

No memory of what lock it fit,

what door it opened.

Just a cold piece of metal.

Dust clinging to its teeth.

Unlocking nothing.

Just a weight in the hand,

a question with no answer.
