Erosion

The rhythm is off by half a beat.

I hear it through the bedroom heat.

One drop falls, then a heavy two,

staining the basin a crusty blue.

A ring of calcium, hard and green,

marks the time that’s come between.

I could fix the washer, I suppose,

but I like the way the water goes.
