The kids left a sun on the sidewalk

The kids left a sun on the sidewalk.

It’s a lopsided yellow circle

with sticks for rays,

scrawled right where the concrete

meets the edge of the gutter.

I step over it carefully.

The rain is coming in from the west

and the yellow dust is already

clinging to the treads of my boots.

Maybe it will stay dry

just long enough for someone else

to see it was there.
