Tensile Strength

I reached for the mug

and found the silver loop

drowning in the dregs.

I tried to bend it back

into something straight

to hold the files together.

The wire bit into my thumb,

a sharp, metallic pinch.

It’s tired of being flexed.

It wants to stay broken

in the shape of a hook.
