Locked Out

I sorted through keys, a pile of old rust,

each one a promise, now buried in dust.

I turned one in a lock, but it wouldn’t obey,

just like those moments I let slip away.

Memories trapped, behind barriers drawn,

a key in my hand, but the meaning is gone.

I stand here puzzled, with questions unvoiced,

a rusty reminder of choices once poised.
