Sweetness Just Out of Reach

The jingle plays down my street,
children rush, their laughter sweet,
while I cradle my mug, cold and gray,
watching the ice cream truck fade away.
Fingers sticky from memories bright,
each scoop a treasure, a moment of light,
yet here I am, a bystander still,
tasting regret as the last thrill.
The sun sets low, a hunger ignites,
for those simple joys, those summer nights.
