Pigment

The fluorescent bulb hums a flat note

over the medicine cabinet.

I twisted my neck to check for a tick,

some hitchhiker from the tall grass,

but found a new brown spot instead.

It isn't a constellation or a map.

It is just a small, dark leak

of time rising to the surface

of my shoulder, reminding me

that the skin remembers every year I forgot.
