Standardized Weight

The nurse keeps her eyes on the clip

while the metal plate gives a click.

I kept my boots on for the grip

of something heavy and thick.

That flickering red digital eight

won't decide where to land.

It's a jittery kind of fate

I wasn't prepared to withstand.

She scribbles a note in the margin

about the gravity I've acquired.

I feel like a sinking barge in

a room where everyone's tired.
