The Watch

The air turned sharp and the leaves went thin.

I took the leather strap off my wrist

and found a ghost-white band of skin

where the summer sun had missed.


It’s a sharp border, a pale little scar

of a season I spent watching the clock.

I look like a map of where I didn't go far,

just a pale stripe against the brown rock.
