I said could you help — the words still hung

in the thin walls before the door slammed shut.


No sound but the lock clicking tight,

a sudden silence like spilled salt on the floor.


That no settled slow,

like dust on the windowsill I never wipe.


I stood there, holding the weight of my ask,

the box forgotten, but heavy like regret.
