The Weight of Envy

Scrolling through faces, bright smiles on display,

a friend’s shining triumph steals sunlight away.

Her new job announced, like a flash in the night,

while I sit in silence, wrapped tight in my plight.

This green-eyed monster claws at my core,

as I sip bitter coffee and wish for much more.

In the glow of my phone, her success glimmers bright,

but here in my heart, it stings like a bite.

Yet envy’s a cloak, heavy, and worn,

a reminder of dreams that I’ve neglected, forlorn.

Can I shake off this weight, learn to celebrate,

or linger in shadows that darken my fate?
