Sinking Fears

At the edge of the shore, I watched them dig down,

a child lost in play, with the waves like a crown.

Remembering days when the ground felt alive,

with quicksand lurking, a shadow to thrive.

The fear wrapped around me, each grain held a fright,

not knowing that life wouldn’t swallow in night.

Now I watch as they play, just a slip of the hand,

reminded that fear is not all that we planned.
