Power Outage, Moments at Sea

When lights flicker, then vanish, I stand in the dark,
hands frozen mid-soap, thoughts swirling like smoke,
a different kind of silence blankets the stark,
and all of my worries begin to provoke.
The quiet roars as shadows stretch on the wall,
I reach for a spark of something bright, but it’s lost,
the smell of old meals in the air, slight but tall,
and it tugs at the seams of what’s worth the cost.
At the window, I catch the last rays of light,
they dance on the edges, just barely afloat,
I’m adrift in the dark, holding fast to the fight,
in this stillness, with echoes of hope, I’ll float.
