Familiar Strangers

In line at the café, my heart beat in time,

a glance at a stranger, their eyes felt like mine.

I said, ‘You remind me of someone I knew,’

as memories danced, pulling shadows in two.

The air thick with questions, unspoken, unheard,

that brief interaction—a whisper, a word.

And I couldn’t shake off the tension that lay,

like fog settling down, misting over the day.

Now I ponder that moment, what truth could be found,

a fleeting connection in crowds all around.
