Seeing Beyond

Across the table, a flash caught my gaze,

it wasn’t the smile, but the glassy haze.

A flicker of hope wrapped in stories of steel,

reflecting resilience, a strength that feels real.

They told me of battles fought day after day,

and the world through their eye, a distinct array.

It shifts with the light, but never with shame,

the glint, like a beacon, still carrying flame.

In a café of chatter, they offered their truth,

a glimpse into life with its cuts and uncouth.

And I marveled at how, with one eye they’d found,

a world full of color, though some parts were drowned.
