Silent Apologies

Staring into eyes that used to know me well,

a silence now festers in words left unsaid,

my heart races softly, caught in its shell,

but apologies dwindle, just like the thread.

Two souls once knit tight, now ghosted by past,

I see hurt in the lines that map out our grace,

yet here I stand frozen, the moment won’t last,

a chasm so wide fills the familiar space.
