Crossing Over

This old bridge creaks underfoot, a breath held tight,

rusted chains sway, a whisper of fears long tucked,

I walk with each step, facing the fading light,

a moment of courage, where old habits are plucked.

Once I avoided this span, the distance too wide,

but today I stride forth, heart pounding in place,

the weight of my journey a current, a tide,

reminding me gently I’m willing to face.

Each step forward, a breaking of chains,

past echoes linger, but I leave them behind,

here on this bridge, through the joy and the pains,

I’m more than my scars; I am learning to find.
