Blanket of Confusion

I cradle you close, this bundle of dreams,

your tiny hands curl like secrets unspoken,

yet still, I stand blank, in silence it seems,

as love wraps around me, but feels like a token.

Your soft cooing echoes, a gentle request,

but waves of confusion drown out the delight,

why does my heart thrum, feel like a jest?

instead of bursting, it wanes in the night.

The knitted blanket, so small and so pure,

lays against my chest, like a weight on my soul,

yet here in this moment, a question for sure—

what does it mean when you don’t feel whole?
