Silence's Companion

The radio hums, a familiar dread,

a crackle of noise, a longing for sound,

static fills the air, where silence has fled,

conversations drifting, lost and unbound.

Memories creep in, sharp as a knife,

fragments of laughter just out of reach,

words fall like shadows, memories of life,

yet the static reminds me, they don’t teach.

Old lights flicker, uncertain, unsure,

drowning in silence, what did we lose?

In this empty space, hearts must endure,

a companion of longing, a silent ruse.
