Empty Pew

The brick church, old Elm Street.

New banners, bright,

for an art fair.

A different kind of light.

The stained glass, heavy, dark.

No color caught.

Just grey panes.

What was once taught,

now just a hollow space.

The sandstone steps,

worn smooth by feet

that walked a different pace.

Sun caught the curve. Nothing more.
