The Candy Bar

That dark aisle.

It's still there, that bar.

Cool foil against my thigh.

A quick, silent scar.


My heart, a drum.

Just a dollar's worth.

Sweetness in my gut,

cheap, stolen mirth.


No one saw.

But I remember the wrapper's press.
