Distance

Three hours stretch like rubber bands pulled tight,

each mile a reminder of the fading light.

Brake lights blur into a red glow ahead,

as silence wraps around me like a thread.

My heart aches for the words we never spoke,

each minute that passes feels heavy, like smoke.

The horizon slips under the darkening sky,

and I drive through shadows, wondering why.
