When Wishes Backfire

I woke up today with a burden so thick,

my heart felt a tremor as I glanced at the skies.

A prayer I once whispered, now turned to a trick,

what I thought was my freedom now binds and defies.

Ink smeared on paper, crumpled with shame,

I chased a mirage, but the cost was my soul.

With hope in the air, now I’m caught in the game,

what I begged for with longing has taken its toll.
