Stalled in Transit

Trapped in this metal, my heartbeat's a race,

clenching my stomach, enclosed in this space.

Flickering lights overhead buzz and hum,

as the gears grind below, a mechanical drum.

Each floor a promise, each button a hope,

but I’m stuck in between, how do I cope?

The downward spiral gnaws at the core,

reminding me always of the climbs I ignore.

Am I bound for the top, or is this my fate?

The silence screams loudly—why do I wait?
