Shadows on the Surface

Under fluorescent glare, I catch a glance,
the sharpness of my collarbone catching the glow,
a stark silhouette in this merciless dance,
exposing vulnerabilities I rarely show.
The light cuts deep, revealing the scars,
as I stand there frozen, the reflection won’t break,
it’s a moment of truth beneath buzzing stars,
a fragile heart trapped, the surface a fake.
And as shadows flicker on skin that feels bare,
I wonder what lives beneath the bright sheen,
what secrets lie hidden, too tender to share,
in the cold of this room, I feel everything mean.
