The Edge of Tears

In a café's embrace, emotions collide,

a stranger’s sharp laughter, like waves on the tide.

I swallow the swell of the grief I disguise,

searching for solace in unspoken goodbyes.

Steam rises, curling, from my half-empty cup,

as memories bubble and threaten to erupt.

But I cling to the moment, refuse to let go,

a fragile facade, just a little too slow.
