In the Dark

I rummaged through boxes, searching for light,

a flashlight flickered, then surrendered the fight.

In that moment of darkness, my thoughts start to swirl,

like shadows unspooling, they twirl and unfurl.

The beam once so bright, now a flickering ghost,

it echoes my thoughts, what I want matters most.

I stumble through memories, they hide in the black,

as I grasp for the clarity, it slips through the cracks.

This light is a metaphor for the mind's slow decay,

as I search for connections that lead me astray.

With dying batteries, I find I must cope,

but darkness can hold just a thread of hope.
