Another Name

A text arrived, polite and brief,

a name I half-recall.

It brought a kind of strange relief,

though it meant nothing at all.

We share a letter, that is true,

a branch upon the tree.

A distant cousin, someone new,

who sends a note to me.

A party planned, a date is set,

but I will not be there.

A polite nod, a quiet debt,

that hangs within the air.
