Severing Something Whole

The saw’s edge gleams under garish light,

cutting clean through the weight of my doubt.

Each thrust splits the air, heavy with fright,

while splinters scatter, their paths winding out.

The wood groans under pressure and strain,

each inch wrested free, a victory loud.

But as it falls, I feel only the pain,

of what was once whole, now lost in the crowd.
