A nightlight

The dark in my room feels like weight on my chest,

I trip over shadows where once I found rest.

Searching for comfort, I fumble for light,

a dim bulb flickers, fighting back night.

Dust dances around, a ghost in the glow,

remnants of fears I’ve tried hard to throw.

Each night stretches long, with dreams held at bay,

I long for the warmth of that light in the fray.
