That One Time I Tried

It was middle school, the gym floor creaked,

when my voice cracked while trying to sing.

Laughter erupted, like thunder it peaked,

a memory that still has a sting.

I laughed it off, yet inside I hid,

a small part of me feeling the bruise.

But looking back now, I see the kid,

young dreams mixed with pain, I refuse to lose.
