Mediocre Choices

I fill my glass with lukewarm water,

a tepid choice in the depths of thirst,

comfort feels like settling,

longing for the burst of crisp refreshment,

I sigh as it slips through my fingers.

In the mundane, I seek vitality,

but all I get is mediocrity,

as the unremarkable surface

glares back,

a reminder of what could be.
