Wishes, Weighed

A fountain glitters, children’s laughter takes flight,
coins dropped like hopes, lost to the night.
Ripples of wishes dance on the surface,
each glint tells a tale, each wish bears a purpose.
I stand by the edge, my heart feels the weight,
as I watch them sink down, like dreams held too late.
Throwing a penny, I whisper my wish,
but wonder if fate cares, or if it’s just a dish.
Echoes of laughter, entwined with my sigh,
as the water grows deeper, and my hopes slip by.
Yet something remains, shimmering, bright,
that some wishes, though lost, find their way to the light.
