Snap of Flame

A sudden pop cuts the quiet,

wood strikes stone, sharp and quick.

Sulfur stings the air,

a memory breaking loose in the room.

Smoke curls, thin and stubborn,

rising from a fragile flame,

trembling like the moment

I remember but can’t hold.

Fingers singed by light,

the smell lingers longer than the fire,

a small snap echoing

in the crack of forgotten things.
