Lost and Found Button

Cold breeze bites the chest

where the button should be.

The shirt hangs loose,

a small hole like a missing word.

The button lies forgotten

on cracked concrete,

amidst cigarette butts

and scattered leaves.

It slipped away unnoticed,

lost in the noise of morning rush,

a tiny absence carving out

something suddenly hollow.

I catch my breath,

feeling the empty space,

and wonder how small things

unravel the whole.
