The Ticket I Didn’t See Coming

Yellow as regret

folded sharp in the wallet’s leather fold—

frayed edges like a small, forgotten argument

between me and the city.

It smelled like rain and burnt rubber

pressed into paper that forgot to lie flat.

I shoved it deeper,

between the plastic cards and faded receipts,

the soft, useless proof that I lost

another battle with the clock.
