Ghost twin

I woke up, thought you were there,

two breaths rising in the cold air.

A twin shadow pressed close, unseen,

a silent partner in the dream.

Two coffee mugs, side by side,

one cold, untouched, where you’d hide.

Empty space that fills the bed,

a ghost twin pressing on my head.

I reach, but only find the air,

a hollow weight too sharp to bear.

The twin I never knew or met,

a phantom presence, deep regret.
